A cemetery preservation workshop is scheduled at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church & Cemetery on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Dear ACPA Members and Friends:
It was suggested after last year’s workshop that we should consider a 2-day workshop this year and this year’s venue & host organization made a perfect fit to do just that. Our host, Old Autauga County Historical Society (OACHS), had an existing project to document the Mallard’s Chapel Cemetery and submit an application to the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC) for placement on the Alabama Historical Cemetery Register. Attendees will learn what information is required, how to collect it and how to save the needed data during the Friday afternoon session – and then practice what’s been learned. OACHS will later use the data we provide to submit the application package to AHC.
Mallard’s Chapel AME and Ivy Creek UMC are both located off of AL-14 about halfway between Prattville and Selma and have Autaugaville addresses. Sign in will start at 1:00 pm Friday, April 28 at the historic Mallard’s Chapel Cemetery with the program following shortly thereafter; no meals or refreshments will be provided Friday. Registration will start at 8:30 am Saturday, April 29 at Ivy Creek UMC and the program will start at 9:00. The workshop will relocate after lunch to the co-located historic Ivy Creek Cemetery; breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided Saturday.
We believe we have again assembled an exciting and informative program scheduled for you with presentations and demonstrations by highly experienced and sought-after professionals for their chosen topics. The attached flyer provides additional details with a registration form and map. The ACPA board has decided to continue keeping fees this year at the bare minimum: $25 for ACPA members and $40 for non-members. The fee includes refreshments and a box lunch for Saturday, and handout materials on both days. Please note that registrations must be received by April 21, 2023 to ensure handout materials and a box lunch will be available for you. Also please note on the registration form that the board approved extending the policy of "free membership to first-time attendees" for the remainder of the calendar year.
Also note that group rates have been established with the Quality Inn Prattville for Friday night for those who need a motel room. Details are provided on the flyer that you can download on the link below. The flyer/registration form will also be available for downloading on our ACPA Facebook page.
We will also conduct our Annual ACPA Membership Meeting during lunch on Saturday where the membership will elect officers for the 2024-2025 Term. Both members and non-members are invited to participate but of course only members in good standing may vote in the election of officers. The attached membership meeting announcement provides additional details.
I hope to see you all on April 28th and 29th!.
