by Bert Blackmon - member of the St. John Richardson Liddell Chapter #271 of the Military Order of the Stars and Bars, Bay Minette, AL

On Saturday, December 16th, 2006, members of the St. John Richardson Liddell Chapter #271 (Military Order of the Stars and Bars) in Bay Minette used methods learned from the ACPA symposium in Evergreen to restore the grave of Lt. J.M. Stribling. Lt. Stribling was a Confederate Naval Officer who died in 1862 while serving aboard the CSS Florida. He is interred in the Montross Cemetery in Montrose, Alabama.

Gravesite in deteriorated state.
The stone and the fence were installed shortly after the war by his father, Admiral Stribling, of the United States Navy. The Stone was cleaned and the fence wire brushed and repainted. Years worth of weeds and vines were removed.
It is one of the Chapters projects to care for the graves of Confederate Officers and we maintain a list of them from our county that we tend in order. The next servicing of Confederate Graves will be on March 10, 2007 at the Montgomery Hill Cemetery in Baldwin Co., Alabama.
