Historic Cemetery Marker Dedication, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Shelby Co
A Historic Cemetery Marker Dedication Ceremony will be conducted at Shelby County's Mt Calvery Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, Nov 20, 2010. The Friends of Historic Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and Cemetery will open the church at 10:00 AM for visitors to view the inside of the church, photos and church history. A covered dish lunch will begin at Noon and the dedication ceremonies will start at 2:00 PM. The public is invited. Directions: From Columbiana toward Chelsea travel Shelby County Hwy. #47 North. Turn left on Shelby County Hwy. #69 North. Turn left on Shelby County Hwy. #74 West. Church is located approximately 1. 5 mile on left. ACPA Annual Cemetery Preservation Workshop and Membership Meeting
The 9th Annual Cemetery Preservation Workshop will be held in Montgomery on Nov 6, 2010 and we have been most fortunate to book Dr. Mike Trinkley of the Chicora Foundation as guest lecturer and demonstrator. Chicoras Mission Statement: Chicora is a Columbia, South Carolina public, non-profit heritage preservation organization founded in 1983. Our work includes archaeological and historical research throughout the Southeastern US, public education (primarily right here in South Carolina), and work in conservation and preservation with museums, libraries, archives, historic organizations, and private citizens. With years of experience and hundreds of projects, we are a leader in preservation efforts. Bio: Dr. Michael Trinkley received his doctorate from the University of North Carolina in 1980 and has published numerous scholarly studies with Chicora, the University of Alabama Press, and others. He has over 30 years of preservation experience and has been the director of Chicora Foundation since 1983. Prior to his work with Chicora he was the senior archaeologist with the SC Department of Highways. Dr. Trinkley is a registered consultant with numerous state and international agencies and has served as an expert witness for cemetery and archaeology issues in both South Carolina Circuit Courts and US Federal Court. He has been accepted for membership in the Register of Professional Archaeologists and is also a member of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works.

Alabama Frontier Days
Nov 3-7: Alabama Frontier Days, Ft Toulouse/Ft Jackson, Wetumpka. Annual event depicts life on the frontier from 1717 to 1820. The event depicts life on the frontier from 1717 to 1820 and focuses on showcasing for the public what life was like in the frontier South during the early years of European and American exploration. You will see what daily life was like and what kinds of tools and weapons the settlers used. Many frontier trades and crafts will be demonstrated by experienced craftsmen in the costume of the period. In addition, there will be strolling balladeers, itinerant entertainers, and a magician. There will be many merchants offering quality reproductions of items used on the frontier.

Oct 7-9: Alabama Trusts 2010 Alabama Preservation Conference, Montgomery. Keynote speaker: Donovan Rypkema. Historic places make life better by being essential assets for the revitalization of Alabamas small towns and downtowns.
